In 2011 Michelle and Mo joined forces to create a company that delivers quality outdoor living spaces that homeowners are proud to call their own. Together Mo and Michelle bring years of experience and schooling to your project providing clients with a professionally constructed product that everyone can be proud of.
Michelle has been working in the turf management industry since 1999. Her love for landscaping started working on golf courses as part of the summer maintenance crews. Michelle worked on golf course until 2008 and over the years she learned not only a great deal about maintaining and conditioning the courses she also had the opportunity to spend a year and a half working on a new course construction as well as a season working on a bunker renovation at a different course. Michelle has also dedicated a lot of time to studying. In 2006 she earned a certificate in Turf Grass Management from Guelph University and also received her Landscape Pesticide License as well as her examiner’s certificate. She began to pursue an Undergraduate degree from Penn State University in the fall of 2006 and is also a certified Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Agent. IPM is becoming more and more important as we move away from standard pesticides and look for more environmentally friendly alternatives to our soil and turf problems. Michelle left the golf industry in 2008 to work for a landscape construction company to gain more construction experience. For the next 2 years she worked on teams that developed the landscaping at two high-end hotels and a city park as well as many residential projects. It was an excellent learning experience that was the inspiration for Energized Surroundings.
Mo von Roeder
Mo von Roeder began working in the landscape industry in 1996 when he started working at a local horse farm. This is where Mo learned all of the ins and outs of running and maintaining a competition horse stable, from the grounds maintenance to the barn itself and everything in between. Mo graduated from Durham College in 2001 with a degree in Business Administration. He then went to work for a Landscape Supply Yard where he was able to learn a great deal about the types of products (i.e. interlocking bricks, drainage material, etc) that we use most today. In 2003 he got back into the horse world and started building Cross Country Courses for the Equine discipline of Eventing. Mo worked and trained with many high level designers and builders at many different events all over North America, until 2008 when he started out on his own. Mo continued to work in the same industry building for various events working mainly in Canada. In 2009 Mo became an Accredited Course Designer with Equine Canada and the United States Eventing Association, which then allowed him to not only build but also design the courses he worked on. In 2011 Mo and Michelle started Energized Surroundings. Mo has been building on his landscaping certifications and is now a certified Landscape Designer as well as a certified Landscape Installation Technician.
